First Week of Summer at the DoSiDose Ranch

Erin is keeping our frisky pony still for the camera.

Carrie doesn't have a green tail, she's sitting on the sprinkler...

Last Washington DC Post

On Thursday of our Washington DC week we met up with Grandpa Smith and Cheri and went to the National Zoo. Here are some of the animals we saw.

Still more pictures from day one

At the Lincoln Memorial, we noticed how it talked about how Lincoln "saved the union". Carrie remembered from her president report that Buchanan's motto was "Save the Union (not onion)". We surmised that perhaps Buchanan paved the way for Lincoln's success.
When I was in ninth grade (Mr. Kelso's class - who looked remarkably like Tom Selleck at the time), I would have gotten extra credit if I memorized Lincoln's speech. I couldn't do it.
We really admired the Korean War memorial. We don't have a good picture of it, but there was a wall on the left side that was so neat. It had very faint engravings of soldiers that would reveal themselves only when the sunlight was just right.

More pictures from Day One

On the plane to Philadelphia, then onto the Reagan Airport in DC. Coming back, our connection was in Phoenix.
At first I thought this was a subway picture. Upon closer inspection, we are in the shuttle from the long term parking to the Portland airport terminal!
The white house - I told Erin we'd see the inside when she becomes president.

Washington DC - day three

On Tuesday of our Washington DC week, we took the subway, then a bus to Mt. Vernon.
Here is Carrie on the bus. When the bus stopped quickly, she flew down the aisle. Luckily, it wasn't a full bus.
This is the back of George & Martha Washington's house. It was a really neat tour.
Here's what we wanted to see - the 16 sided barn, George himself invented it.

Wonderful, wonderful Washington DC

We are back from our trip to Washington DC. We had the best time. Dave had a conference 6/18-6/20, so we arrived early on Fathers Day, 6/15. We stayed at the Grand Hyatt, which was fabulous. The woman checking us in did us an immense favor by upgrading us to use the "Regency Club Lounge" on the twelfth floor. Everyday they put out a breakfast spread, snacks, hors d' oeuvres, and a dessert buffet. We felt so fancy! We ate at a nice Thai restaurant our first night, Haad Thai. Jill & Erin had the Pad Thai, Dave had the Pad Z U and Carrie had satay chicken skewers. The desserts in the club room that night were little tarts and chocolate chip cookies.

Our first full day we spent walking quite a bit. We saw the white house, some memorials, the Air & Space museum and the dinosaur bones at the Museum of Natural History.
Shocked by the close quarters, Erin may not pursue an astronautical career now.
This was our favorite sculpture in the sculpture garden.
Look out!

DoSiDose Update

Whew, it's a whirlwind over here but we are getting everything done. Poor Erin has a DOUBLE EAR INFECTION but we've got her antibiotics started so hopefully she's on the mend.
The farrier is coming today for Jenny. We'll see how we've been doing with her "soft" hooves. Basically, between Erin & Jenny, we've got issues head to toe. It'll all work out though.

The girls are finishing up their last week of school and Carrie's got softball - it's a busy time but we are having fun. (I don't have any good pictures to post!)

She was an Oompa Loompa and did so great! It was very fun.

Another Use for Jenga

Here is what Dave and the girls were working on last night.

I found this picture on another blog that I think is hilarious.
The customer telephoned the bakery and asked the decorator to write,
"Best Wishes Suzanne" and underneath that, write "We will miss you".
Here is what she found when she picked it up.

Tamagotchis Out, Webkinz In

Erin & Carrie have discovered Webkinz. You purchase these stuffed animals, then you go online to webkinz.com and create worlds for them. You can buy them clothes, furniture and cars. You have to feed them and put them to bed. Granny got them each a panda bear, then they used their dog-sitting money to purchase more.
They are as follows:
top row, left to right - Bella, Buddy, Hermoine, Starbolter
middle row, left to right - Pansy, Splash, Cookie
bottom row, left to right - Lucky, Spotty
