At the Lincoln Memorial, we noticed how it talked about how Lincoln "saved the union". Carrie remembered from her president report that Buchanan's motto was
"Save the Union (not onion)". We surmised that perhaps Buchanan paved the way for Lincoln's success.
When I was in ninth grade (Mr. Kelso's class - who looked remarkably like Tom Selleck at the time), I would have gotten extra credit if I memorized Lincoln's speech. I couldn't do it.
We really admired the Korean War memorial. We don't have a good picture of it, but there was a wall on the left side that was so neat. It had very faint engravings of soldiers that would reveal themselves only when the sunlight was just right.
